The Villages around Merano
On the sunny hills above Merano, nestled amid vineyards and fruit orchards, we discover the villages of Tirol and Schenna. Setting out from Merano, we can reach these rural communities via several different hiking paths. Nearby Schloss Tirol is home to the South Tyrol Museum of Cultural & Provincial History.

Hikes by the Water
Discover, be astonished, gaze in awe: Take a walk by the Waale to the foot of snow-covered mountains. These “Waale” are actually man-made canals used to irrigate the fruit orchards. Running alongside these relatively flat watercourses are paths that are fairly reckoned some of the most beautiful in the region. In the area around Merano are some 14 different Waal paths that are walkable year-round.
